Mom Perspective: How do you do both ?

ree

I think the secret to how I am able to be a Nurse + Mom is by not trying to do both at the same time.

Ironically, that is truly the hardest part also! It's finding that balance while taking my kids to the pediatrician, and answering their questions as a mom and not as a nurse. I think everyone believes, and has even said to me before I was a mom "you will make a great mom because you are a nurse". The truth is when I am saving other peoples lives - I feel the most in control. Contrary, when its my own kiddos all that nursing experience goes out the window. I feel like a new grad RN in a code !

I have two young boys Avery (4 pictured above) and Ethan (2).

They are always super energetic and greet me with tackles when I come home. No matter how difficult the shift, it all just kind of fades away when I see them.

I try to stay present in all of the moments that I have with them & on My OFF-Days we live it up!

Mostly my real secret is my amazing support system. Between my amazing husband, my ride or die parents, and my supportive tribe I am able to do all the things.

Motherhood and Nursing are likely the two Baddest gangs that I'm affiliated with. The sacrifice, heart, and GRIT needed for both is unmatched. I thought I learned a lot after nursing school and then I became a mom. Whewwww - now I'm a whole force ! Now Im fearless !

When I worked at the hospital I traded in rotating shifts for straight nights. At that time I only had one son, and while he was not in school or daycare I could make it work. I would get off work and go straight to my parents house (Grandparents Day camp) to see my baby boy. Then I would go home and sleep, and do it all over again. Now I work 8 hr shifts & the days are still long.

I rush home for the 3 B's, as we used to call them in my house: Bath, Bottle, Bed.

How do you do both Nurse Moms?
